2021 Special Enrollment Period in response to the COVID-19 Emergency
Earlier this week, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) announced that the COVID Special Enrollment Period (SEP) for Medicaid and Medicare will be extended from May 15 to August 15, 2021. The COVID SEP is ongoing as it began on February 15, and now consumers will now have an additional three months in which to enroll in coverage without needing to provide proof of a qualifying life event (e.g., eligibility assessment for homecare). All active Medicaid cases with authorization and coverage dates ending in March, April, May and June will be systemically extended for 12 months.” If a case was closed after March 18, 2020, it will be reopened.
